When it comes to sustainability, more or less everything revolves around the future of our beautiful planet. It’s much more about actions than it is about words, as only coordinated action can help us ensure a hospitable living environment for our future generations. Having said that, the sustainability journey is not an easy one and definitely not an effortless one. Therefore, it’s nice for meaningful contributions to be recognized from time to time, be it in the form of a gesture, a compliment or an award, for example. That’s why we’ve chosen to highlight the fact that the Tourism Corporation Bonaire has very recently been nominated for a prestigious Vakantie Award 2023 in the category “Sustainability”. In total, Dutch Caribbean-based organizations and companies hauled in five nominations.

Recognizing Caribbean Dutch efforts

Out of those five nominations, the Tourism Corporation Bonaire got two, one as mentioned before in the “Sustainability” category and the other in the “Tourism Office” category. The Curaçao Tourism Board’s only nomination came in this last category as well, while Aruba received two nominations. The first is for the Aruba Tourism Authority in the “Tourism Office” category, while the second was received by the Boardwalk Boutique Hotel, located on Palm Beach, in the category “Hotels”.

“As the theme of the evening is “Proud to be in travel”, TCB [Tourist Corporation Bonaire] is proud on the nominations,” says Miles B.M. Mercera, CEO of TCB, “Bonaire’s conservation efforts distinguish us as a leading vacation spot with a focus on sustainability, economic development and culture. The complete rebranding of all our expressions reinforces these developments, It’s in our nature”.

While the nominations for the representatives from the Caribbean Netherlands are more than well-deserved, they will be facing some stiff competition in each category. In the “Tourism Office” category, for which the tourist offices of each of the three ABC islands are nominated, you can also find the German Tourist Office (Duits Verkeersbureau), Brand USA and Atout France, amongst others. The previously mentioned Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba has to compete with RIU Hotels & Resorts, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts and Domes Results in the “Hotels” category, just to name a few examples. In the category for Sustainability, the Tourism Corporation Bonaire is joined by a series of big names as well, including Fair Travel (TUI), YourWay2GO and the Spanish Tourist Office.

Vakantie Awards 2023

Whether or not one or more of the Dutch Caribbean participants can convert their nominations into awards will be announced on Saturday, January 28th 2023, at the Hart van Holland establishment in Nijkerk, in the European Netherlands. That day, the TravMagazine Travel Gala will take place and the Vakantie Awards 2023 ceremony is one of the evening’s highlights. During the gala, the travel industry will also look back on the tumultuous year 2022 and most of all, look forward to a better future.
